TOM POELMANS — FOR THE WIND WILL BLOW MY NAME ACROSS THIS LAND
23.10.2014 – 29.11.2014
Tom Poelmans challenges the canvas. He explores how far he can go in materiality, form and pictorial history. Self-portraits and thorough, abstract material research hang side by side. The busy, layered patterns and the distinctly individual figuration are apparently irreconcilable. Yet it is precisely in those extremes that the painter invents and depicts his domain, in which one work follows the other like a chain reaction. He enters into a dialogue with the paint, wages a silent battle with the canvas and its history. He sees the “mistake” or chance as an indispensable ally of his creative process.
